‘comb for something’

When you say that you combed for something, it means that you searched everywhere hoping to find it.

Example:  ” The film star combed the entire house for the missing diamond necklace that her husband had given her.”

It is also possible to comb for an individual.
Examples: ”The police combed the neighbourhood for the escaped convicts.” * “Everyone combed the temple for the missing children.”
